I Want To "Dance My Stress Away"!
“You appear to get a much bigger release of endorphins when you dance than during other forms of exercise; it also connects with the emotional centers in the brain. For many people, dancing prompts an emotional release – often that’s uncomplicated happiness, while for some it can make them cry. It’s cathartic – a letting go of pent-up emotions.”

The Therapeutic Dance Hall is a place where clients, our staff and the community come to "Dance Their Stress Away!" each and every Friday.
The dance hall was created by our Center Director, Ms. Monica Boddie because she saw a need for our clients and the community to bond, heal and release stress and seek help for their mental health needs where they would not normally do so. The Therapeutic Dance Hall opened the door to the conversation of how minorities are reluctant to seek help for their mental health needs but can relate to "stress". The stigma's around mental health in the African American communities has caused many of the issues related to crime, abandonment, and untreated mental health symptoms. In an effort to put an end to the many stigmas on mental health, our mission is to introduce therapy through the backdoor by inviting people to come and "Dance Their Stress Away".
There are several ways one can come and dance:
Being a client - All clients are welcomed to dance on Fridays between the hours of 12:30 pm - 1 pm.
Becoming a Community Partner - All community agencies are welcomed to come and join our Campaign. If you are interested in bringing your agency to dance in the Therapeutic Dance Hall please complete the form below and one of our Dance Team Member's will contact you to coordinate your agency's trip.
Community Member/Neighbor - We welcome anyone from the community who is interested in dropping by to dance. Community hour is based on the number of participants who have signed up for a particular day. Please complete the form and one of our Dance Team Member's will contact you to coordinate the schedule with you.
Dancing also improves spatial awareness, as well as raises the heart rate and causing a release of feel-good endorphins into the bloodstream. One more benefit is that it helps reduce levels of cortisol – a stress hormone. ... Dancing makes you feel good because it makes you feel so alive.”
